Collaboration with Bathurst Tours had us travelling to Blue Mountains galleries in June and to the Archibald exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW in July.
A small group gathered on a June winter’s day to visit Keith Rowe Glass Studio and Gallery, Blackheath where we were met by glass artist Kayo Yokoyama who explained the various tools and comprehensive intricate art of glass blowing, the artistry of shape and textures, colouring, and finishing. I thought that it was a much better informative tour than the Murano glassworks in Venice. A visit to The Lost Bear Gallery followed where I captured Kayo Yokoyama’s hand blown and engraved glass artwork Garden City #532 and saw much of Keith Rowe’s work displayed along with other art in various media.
The tour’s final stop was at the Braemar Gallery where we were met by Kyle Walmsley, Blue Mountains Cultural Development Coordinator, and exhibiting artists Susan Ruming and Janet Saunders. Our members were interested in the three diverse exhibitions at the Gallery. Susan Ruming’s paintings of cloudscapes were amazing, and Corinne Loxton’s exhibition On Sacred Ground captured the desert landscape’s mystical, sacred, and environmental importance. One of Janet Saunders’ artworks was snapped up by Tina Ayoub who fell in love with Saunders’ depiction of a sunflower.
