Visit to The Archibalds a fabulous experience

Another bus trip to Sydney to view the Archibald exhibition at AGNSW was made more special thanks to the interesting information about the artists and their sitters as told to us by excellent AGNSW Guide, Jo. The one-hour guided tour easily stretched into one and a half hours, and we had not yet seen all of the finalists. Seen here is our group with our guide Jo explaining finalist artist Abdul Abdullah’s painting of fellow artist Jason Phu titled No Mountain High Enough.
As we had another couple of hours before alighting on the bus for the return trip, some of us had lunch, or wandered through the remarkable exhibition Yolnu Power: The art of Yirrkala.
I was also taken by the Young Archies exhibition, marvelling at the great talent displayed by children as young as seven years old, with some 18-year-olds who could easily have entered in the Archibald Prize!
More collaborations with Bathurst Tours are planned to visit Sculpture Down The Lachlan in Forbes on 16 October, and a return to the Art Gallery of NSW later this year to view the Dangerously Modern: Australian Women Artists in Europe 1890–1940 exhibition.
